ATI Radeon HD 2600XT benchmarks

We got hold of an early sample of the RV630. The benchmark numbers are encouraging as it beats the hell out of the 8600GTS.

Here are some early results using X6800 processor with 2GB of DDR2-800.

3Dmark06

Radeon HD 2600XT - 5760 marks
GeForce 8600GTS - 5900 marks

3Dmark05

Radeon HD 2600XT - 11652 marks
GeForce 8600GTS - 11500 marks

FEAR (1600x1200)

Radeon HD 2600XT - 29 fps
GeForce 8600GTS - 29 fps

Could you elaborate about how the 2600XT beats the hell out of the 8600GTS. The scores you show for both are very similar.

from what i see 8600gts is even a tad better

atlr is right. Where is it squahing the 8600GTS.

Did you do a massive typo?????

IN real games, the diff. is more noticable. Bookmark it and come back often for updates.

128-bit bus has to go.

Fear looks to me like a real game and the scores are tied.

Will need more games to look at than one though.

My guess is it beats it up because its an engineering sample, not the real card and is probably functioning on subpar drivers while still getting similar scores.

ATI just can not compete there like an old dog. And some one should shot It just to put it out of misery.

theres only so much tweaking that can be done to drivers for better performance.

The choice is hard here, but given the results of the FAILED 2900XT, I'd stear clear from ATI for a while.

rite now Nvidia>ATI

even if they are on par the only way to beat it is price wise :)

The 2600XT beats the hell out of it since it is $215NZ vs. the 8600 GTS being $325 NZ

2/3 the price for the same performance is a spanking.

As one of the guys before me said...

128-bit got to go...

512-bit for the enthusiast’s class
128-bit for the performance class
128-bit for the budget class

The gap is too ridiculous between the enthusiasts & performance class...
It’s choking the performance with this stupid narrow bus

every Gforce card i have ever had has went bad dont know if thay just push core speed to the max just to get the higher fps but if im going to dish out $400 ill go with ati and a few fps less

128-bit bus is compensated by the 120 stream processors AMD designed. In theory, those makeup for the bus only being 128-bit. This card seems to have a more heavy weighting on HDTV than gaming anyway...

LOL, both 8800's have more memory on them than the 2900...if you look at the low settings tests, they are all pretty even, only at higher teture rendering and higher resolutions the 8800's lead because that's what more memory gets you...ever hear of the 2900xt 1gb?? and how two of them took the world record 3Dmark scores even over SLI ultras?? Bad publicity is all it is...and for the price it's still a contender...plus that article has nothing to do with 2600xt and 8600gts, BANG!! you're an idiot...

P.S. your opinion is misguided

There's only one winner in the competition between nVidia and ATi, that's the consumer, maybe you should try to remember that before posting retarded fanboisms, one without the other would ensure a pretty bleak 'get what your given' market.

well this nubs enjoying his ati amd experience nvidia always underperform for me maybe coz im a cheap azz and use amd lol tc ya all

The way I see it is this:

Ultimate config, 2 high end cards in crossfire or SLI.

Now, run the numbers.

Be fair now, make the ATI cards and the Nvidia cards similar in preformance.

Make your crossfire MB and SLI MB similar in preformance.

Now look at the prices:

ATI=cheaper video card, but more expensive MB for crossfire

NVIDIA=more expensive video card, less expensive MB for SLI

But in the end, its about the same price for each setup, just split up differantly

So, as the consumer, your really not saving anything choosing one over another, with the exception of single card rigs.

I currently have 2 machines, both identical. Both Nforce570SLI and both have HIS ATI HD2600XT Isilent video cards. I plan on purchasing this summer 2 NVIDIA cards and 1 ATI crossfire MB (for my two HIS cards) Once this is done I will post the benchmarks.
