If you have been watching Ch 8 or some cable channels, you would have noticed that Astro Malaysia (satellite), similar to our Starhub cable has been advertising abt. Astro channels on TV.
It is kind of weird as the number listed to subscribe is a Malaysian number beginning with 03. I wrote to ASTRO asking for an answer.
They said, if we were to broadcast into Singapore, we will post a press release on astro.com.my
I wonder if that answers my question.
If Astro is allowed to beam into Singapore via satellite, we would be one of the last nations to have satellites ban lifted ;) Waiting for that day..

i was thinking the same, but there were no offical press. My friends says maybe could be mio tv.
Hmmm.. if it is mio tv, then Singtel will have access to all those channels starhub is offering.
I seriously doubt that Starhub would allow that to happen unless SIngtel owns Astro.
I was desperately waiting for ASTRO to broadcast in Singapore. 3 years ago, when I visit my aunt's house in Perak, I always enjoyed the shows on VAANAVIL, VELLITHIRAI and WAH LAH TOI. Till then, I only visit her house every weekend and during the June holidays just to watch ASTRO's channels.
SingTel doesn't own ASTRO. MioTV is just a carrier of 1 or 2 channels on ASTRO's channel line up in Singapore. And because MioTV has such poor content that's why they have to depend on ASTRO's channels, they must well just loose out when ASTRO is in the house. All we have, StarHub and ASTRO. But guys, forget about MioTV and ASTRO. Don't you think that not only StarHub has the best sports, but has the most expensive prices on earth? A second HubStation which I own and paid for it at SGD$600+ and I still have to pay SGD$16/month because it is a second set-top box in my house? That's too much! When asked, they said that they need to duplicate the channels that you have to the second set-top box in the house. I mean, what special skill requires you to do that? Isn't that too much? And to add a channel? Let's say you have a channel which cost $4.28, you pay a additional charge at $4.28 for adding the channel. Again, what special skill is required to do that? Content is somewhat good but still very pricy!
I found out what was this all about when I called them 2 days ago.
The ad that you saw on channel 8 was to attract people in Johor who are non-subscribers to ASTRO. Thus, so far there isn't any involvement of us.
Because all the MediaCorp TV & radio channels are on the free-to-air network, ASTRO has decided to publish their ad with MediaCorp because their channels are reachable through-out Johor itself. What a disappointment!
When asked, why isn't it done on their media platform, they said that more chinese in Johor has turned into Singapore's channel 8. This is the thing. Then why isn't Channel 8 carried on their ASTRO channel line-up?
